One of the parties makes an enquiry, this can be by email with a short or full explaination, a quick text or a phone call. I will set a meeting with the caller, known as Party one, to discuss the issues relating to the dispute or grievance. I am happy to conduct the first session by email if you prefer. After the initial meeting with party one, I will contact the other party, known as party two to discuss their thoughts and feelings. I encourage both parties to communicate through me. The parties at this point may agree to split the costs. With my help each party prepares a summary of their grievances. If appropriate the parties and I will agree a mutually convenient and appropriate venue and date for a face to face mediation. The parties can agree to be in the same room or in different rooms of the venue for "shuttle mediation" The venue for a face to face meeting would always be a neutral location. Shuttle mediation could be at a local neutral venue or in the case of neighbour or family disputes, parties can elect to remain in their own home, while I work back and forth between the two parties. The parties agree to a set of ground rules relating to conduct before the mediation session starts. Two mediator's accompany a " face to face" meeting to assure the ground rules are adhered to and for complete impartiality. If a resolution is reached this can be drafted into a short form agreement, which can be made binding by a solicitor / court at a later date if necessary or appropriate.
